Thanks to all of the folks who attended the Dancin' the Blues Workshop and made it a success! Special thanks to...

Stacey Huston and the Footworks Staff: Thanks for your never-ending support of my dances and workshops and of all dancing in Austin. You guys are great!!!!

My instructors: Bill Borgida, Karen Smith, Sherry Mundell and Keith Shapiro. Thanks for taking time out and sharing your knowledge.

My support crew: Keith, Summer Shapiro, Kira Withrow, Patrick Warren and Clint Zehner. Without you guys I couldn't do any of the things I do in Austin. Your encouragement is always appreciated. Stay tuned for future dates for the May and June editions of the Back Room. In the meantime...

Hookah Blues - Saturday, April 14th

I'll be in Dallas (okay, actually Richardson, TX) on Saturday, April 14th for the opening of a new Blues dance in the DFW area. It's being hosted by my friend Bryan Spellman and features the DJing skillz of Jerry Warwick, Patrick Warren and myself. If you're in the area or feel like making a field trip, please check it out. Hookah Blues @ The Hookah Lounge 212 East Spring Valley Road, Richardson, TX 75018 Admission $7 at the door (Dancers get a 10% discount on food!) Click here for more details.

New Location for Footworks Dance Center

Footworks has temporarily moved its location while Ballet Austin renovates their old facility... but they haven't moved far. You can now find the studio at 403 West 2nd Street in Downtown Austin between San Antonio and Guadalupe. The location is literally around the corner from their old location, with easy access to all that Downtown Austin has to offer. Check out the map for more precise directions. If you're looking for parking in the area your best bet is:

  • Street parking along 2nd, 3rd and San Antonio streets
  • Parking in front of the Ballet Austin building on 3rd and San Antonio
  • Underground parking garage below City Hall; City Hall is on Lavaca between Cesar Chavez and 2nd Street; the garage is open 24 hours and is FREE
  • As always, I encourage folks to carpool so it's easier to find spots.

    Upcoming Dates

All upcoming dates for The Back Room are subject to change, so check here for the latest info!

    On the Road Again

Here are a few events where you can catch me in my natural (DJ) habitat:

    • 04.19 to 04.22 - ATLX 4 (Atlanta Lindy Exhcange) I have seriously fond memories of my first Atlanta exchange because it was one of the first places outside my then home (South Florida) where I got to DJ. Atlanta rivals Austin as a wonderfully friendly scene with great dancers. Registration's open, but they're capping, so jump on this as soon as possible.
    • 04.27 to 04.29 - Blues Shout - St. Louis, MO The stellar folks in St. Louis have done it again! Blues Shout is a celebration of Blues dancing in all it's current forms. There will be amazing competitions, eclectic performances, wonderful music and great social dancing guaranteed to inspire and amaze. These are the folks who brought us Cheap Thrills and STLBX in past years... so you know they know how to party. Registration is now open!
    • 05.18 to 05.20 - Denver Lindy Exchange I'm really excited to be headed back to Denver... I went there last year for the first time and had an absolute blast. Denver's scene rivals Austin for it's friendliness and they have wonderfully awesome and talented dancers. And the city's not half bad either. There's always a big contingent from Austin that heads to DLX... so don't you get left behind. Registration is now open! I'm a big believer in traveling to other events and other dance scenes. I've met some unbelievably talented dancers and beautiful people over the years. They, like me, just want to spread the Blues (and Lindy) love all across the land. So hopefully I'll see YOU on the road...
